DANCEFUR DOCUMENTARY INFO

Ever watched a dance battle where the participants are wearing bespoke $4000 carpets? I have been attending conventions for 20+ years and never been so instantly in love with the concept of bringing DanceFurs to the screen.

It's So You Think You Can Dance.... with about 20 times the sweat.
Remember Dance Monsters? It's that but in real life. Zero CG required.

Furries are a subculture that, (while not all of them want to or can afford to), sometimes wear anthropomorphic animal costumes. They like to dance in those costumes, in front of a crowd of hundreds of people (to the limits of fire capacity and beyond, in separate overflow viewing rooms!!)... and they absolutely go wild!!

I have seen things in my years watching these DanceFurs that have made my jaw drop. Things that have made me say "oh yeah, that was the price of my plane ticket right there, to see this live". I've seen a man in a dog costume do a headstand, pause for effect and turn.

The don't do it for money. They pay to be at these conventions to compete. They do it for you, the fans. And this documentary will tell their stories via the conventions I travel to in Canada. The competitions are streamed live to fans all over the world, but no one has gone in and interviewed these contestants, the judges, and the people running the show before. And they certainly don't know them as well as I do.

When I was Guest of Honour at Vancoufur in 2024, I was a judge! And was given a crash course in what these dancers get graded on and go through.



I'm making this documentary from a place of extreme admiration and respect for these dancers, as they have entertained me so much over the years - I need to show their work on a much higher scale. They deserve only the best.




I'm making a short shot on mini-DV as a proof of concept, but these stories need the big screen. We need a feature length film!! In the five years I have been a furry content creator, nothing else strikes me as effortlessly cinematic as DanceFurs. These people are all so charismatic, they all have the Clark Kent / Superman appeal with fursuits being their representation in the incredible world of fursuiting... and who doesn't love someone who can dance? It'll take your breath away.

As a Canadian I am most interested in featuring the competition of Canadian conventions. We have an incredible DanceFur culture here! I want to show it off to the world.
